Always, always great to see Brisvegas shows, and this one is no exception. Running to celebrate the upcoming tour of the National Galleries Space Invaders show, The Super Heroes looks like a damn fine group show with some of the best talent Australia has to offer.
“How do we feel about ourselves now? How do we feel about the future? Street Art makes people think. On stepping into the gallery, the street artists’s oeuvre remains characterised by the instinctive qualities that developed from an apprenticeship on the street, and has lost none of its distinctive élan.
These artist’s practice has been honed by wit and nimbleness, and mediated only by a desire to make images that speak of their time. Pop culture, lines from songs and mass media’s imagery accumulate in their work, and imbue it with the immediacy of life from which they draw her inspiration.
This is a new kind of portrait of society in technicolour, both enchanting and ominous, that bears witness to the wrestle between the present, the past, and the spectre of what is to come. For a growing number of critics and collectors, the street artist’s work delivers a graphic bang that cannot be ignored.”
