Fantastical artist Katrina Rhodes brings us her incredible debut solo show this Thursday, at the No Vacancy Gallery in Melbourne.
“…Katrina Rhodes embarked on a remarkable career as a freelance artist, in which she honed an enviable skill set and found herself in high demand as an accomplished and versatile artist across a host of mediums.
In her debut exhibition A Handful of Civilised Friends, a tribute to the characters Rhodes has spent one and a half years crafting, the artist will showcase 21 works comprising acrylic paint on linen and cotton canvas, framed in traditional plaster ornate baroque frames. Rhodes painting finds its roots in Gothic 12th century art, yet is inspired by the 16th, 17th and 18th century periods.
Also on show will also be a surprise element of approximately 40 vintage photographic works presented in traditional plaster moulded frames.”
Katrina’s works are based in traditional portraiture yet explore a wonderfully, almost whimsical, obscurity which sets a high standard alone in her – an artist of this calibre should not be missed.
