New kid, and cool kid, on the block Paradise Hills will be showcasing an exhibition of some of Australias finest up and coming painters come Friday night, with High Definition. Theres some names on here we are not that familiar with, so we’re really looking forward to checking out their work, then, of course, there are some favourites like Heesco, Sam Leach, Anthony Lister, Michael Peck etc that we’re looking forward to seeing some work from as well.

“There is much general speculation that with the birth of a digital era the skill of the hand and the acuity of the eye will slowly dissolve, while automated and computerized functions will replace manual labor. However, television and computer graphics of late are seemingly having the opposite effect, with some of the best quality painting happening in the last five years. This is very evident in emerging Australian painting, some of which appears in the exhibition High Definition. This exhibition is a survey of paintings that have somehow been enhanced by the artist’s eye adapting to the clarity of our screens. They respond to or emulate the gloss of plasma displays and LCDs, while using the traditions of physical painting. It is an international phenomenon seeing the rise of amazingly rendered or high gloss images, but Australian painting is on par with the rest of the world in terms of quality and content.

High Definition will feature some established artists, such as 2010 Archibald And Wynne prize winner Sam Leach, Fletcher Jones prize winner Juan Ford, Jim Thalassoudis, Michael Peck, Anthony Lister and Yvette Coppersmith, along side some more emerging names, such as Shannon Smiley, Kevin Chin, Camille Hannah, Alice Wormald, Andre Piguet, Joseph Flynn, Carmel Seymour, Ry David Bradley, Heesco Khosnaran and Michael Staniak. This mix of names not only represents a great cross section of Australian painters but also aims to support the new breed of talents that are destined to make a big mark on the local and international art scene.”
