See, we love robots and alien invaders, so when we saw this flyer for Paul Walsh’s show that will be opening this week in Auckland, well, we had to post it! The show itself posits an alien invasion, and its just the kind of thing that makes the geek inside us go “hells jeh!”
“The first ship landed in Scout Avenue, in the Auckland suburb of Mt Roskill. The alien life forms were initially seen in the vicinity of the Mt Roskill shops; they proceeded to make their way north, up Dominion Road, through Kingsland and into central Auckland, wreaking havoc on both the city and the inhabitants along the way.
These artworks are based on photographs from that infamous day.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Paul Walsh is a self-taught artist, illustrator, web designer and DJ. He was born in Rotorua, has lived in Wellington and London and currently resides in Auckland. He usually operates outside of the traditional art world- sometimes by choice – preferring to associate with musicians, graffiti artists and unemployed alcoholics instead.
His artwork has been featured on CD and vinyl releases by Fat Freddy’s Drop, God Bows to Math, Very Tall Stories and the American producer Wale Oyejide, as well as on tour posters for HomeBrew and Jack Beats. His illustration work for 95bFM has been used on t-shirts, in magazines (Rip it Up, Real groove, NO, etc) and on the 2011 bCard.
Apart from small shows in bars, cafes and the community gallery he used to work in, ‘They Came from Mt Roskill’ is Paul’s first solo exhibition.”
