More great shows from Perth keep coming, and this one looks pretty damned cool to us – that’s because we love ink, and we love artists that put their mark upon people for perpetuity. Unleash a tattoo artists onto a canvas, place them into a gallery setting, and its usually a given that they’ll produce an incredible show.

“If the masters of renaissance oil painting were alive today they might have day jobs in tattoo studios.

Three Perth tattooists have swapped ink and needles for oil and brushes to make a lasting impression on people’s minds.

The exhibition entitled simply ‘Three’ will showcase the artistic talents of Jasmin Austin [WA INK], Ryan Smith [Foothills Tattoo], and Lauren Fenlon [Holdfast Tattoos]. They’ve got tattoos down to a fine art, but it’s time you saw their fine art on canvas.

Influences of the ‘Three’ are as diverse as figurative painting, graffiti art, Japanese tradition, modern illustration, realism, and the renaissance & baroque periods.

Their subject matters range from movement of the human form to merging cultural motifs, executed with experimental techniques in oils, watercolours and copic markers.”
