Lately, you may have noticed a slight absence here and there of the prolific art street art from one of Melbourne favourite artists, Urban Cake Lady. Having cloistered herself in the studio that past couple of months to put her works down on wood instead of her customary walls, RTIST Gallery has just announced her premier solo show, coming up next week.

We interviewed Urban Cake Lady back last year, and it was an interview that completely solidified our love for her work – and, we say it pretty often, but if you’re in the ‘burn, you really can’t miss this show.

“If you haven’t seen Urban Cake Lady’s beautiful works around the streets, Rtist Gallery is offering you a rare opportunity to see her works up close and personal. A blank wall one day, the next a beautiful figure has appeared magically from nowhere.“There’s a balance somewhere between the things I loved as a child and life as an adult that resonates deeply within my work.” says Urban Cake Lady.  Like a shadow in the night, she seeks only to leave her captivating artwork as her footprint and message on life. Moving from the streets to a gallery can be an interesting and difficult process for any street artist. In her first ever solo show Urban Cake Lady is seeking new ways to push her own artistic boundaries. “Tapping into my creative source all day every day has seen a profound change in me and the way I see my work developing into the future.” said Urban Cake Lady. Producing archival works on wood rather then her usual mediums of a temporary nature, her artistic brilliance is demonstrated more than ever before.
