After the last Etcc, a successful Semi-Permanent sideshow in Sydney back in June, its time for the second round as SP hits Brisbane next week.

Etcc is a wonderful idea, taking the whole collaborative angle between artists into a different direction – and who doesn’t like remixes and mash ups? This technological age we live in, of photochopping and creative commons collaborations, particularly lends itself to ideas with which to forward the visual arts, and its shows like this that make us nod our heads in time to the visual cues …

“Appropriation. Rip offs. Sharing. Remix. Collaboration. Piracy. Due credit. The environment artists operate in now is both liberating and litigious.

etcc is a series of exhibitions that are remixed and remixable – legally. The Semi-Permanent side-show culminates in three consecutive exhibitions in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne featuring a body of new works that explore the realities of copyright in the visual arts.

In May aMBUSH gallery in Sydney hosted the first exhibition, a group show of new works derived from the body of legally-remixable Creative Commons-licensed photos. The second show features a second iteration of these works: artists in the Brisbane show have remixed the works from the Sydney show. Following the Brisbane show, Rancho Notorious will host the Melbourne show in September which will feature works that remix from the two previous shows.”
