Vetti returns with her latest InUrban guest blog, giving us a glimpse into the work that she has been admiring around her neighbourhood, Melbournes vibrant suburb of Northcote …
The Word On The Street …
As you probably know, the northside of Melbourne is blessed with a plethora of street art. What you may not realise, is that it’s not all just vibrant images. There are some poignant and talented wordsmiths out on the streets, with an ongoing desire to share thought-provoking and beautiful work…
P.F Danado is a particular favourite of mine. Look out for distinctive
purple stencilled figures (sometimes in frames) and dymo labels with the subject’s name beneath.
Some works are a combinations of pasteups, stickers and dymo. Subjects are often authors, actors, musicians, or film-makers. P.F Danado goes deeper into the reasoning behind specific works at the blog People Who Help Us, which has been operating since 2009. I have seen these amazing pieces in Northcote, East Brunswick, Thornbury, and Fitzroy. The most recent one that I’ve seen is this image of Richard and Siegfried Wagner, which is in High St, Northcote.
Embolalia brings colour and vivid word-pictures to the northside. The first street art I’ve ever seen printed on glossy photographic stock (but not always – some works are matt), with typewritten text atop the most stunning images…I’ve seen these in Northcote and Fitzroy in the last few years, and I’m constantly amazed by where these words take me.
This isn’t the most recent, but I do love it. Spotted in Westgarth Village, where new poems appear fairly frequently… you can Find Embolalia on Facebook , and also at their blog.
You can check out Vettis awesome blog, Live In Northcote for more happenings in her area – its well worth the visit. If you want to let us know about all the cool shit happening in your neighbourhood, or whatever is going on in your city or town, we’re more than keen to hear about it! Put together some words together with a few images, and just send them to us …
