More and more Australian artists (of the ilk we enjoy) are making their mark on the international platform, so we’ve decided it about time we started covering what they’re all up to … obviously, our focus will remain Australian, but, seriously, some of our own are doing fkn amazing shit out there, so how could we not cover it? You’re probably thinking “about time” … so welcome to our new Intercontinental section! What better way to launch this section than to tell you (well, you probably already actually know about it, its not new news) an amazing group show of all OZ talent happening over in LA at the beginning of September.
Young & Free presents a selection of just some of the top brow/street/urban artists that we have to offer. Some of them are still local, and some have spread their wings across the oceans – but all of them produce stunning work, and it will be an amazing display of just a taste of what we have to offer down here.
“Young & Free will be the most significant exhibition by Australian street artists ever seen in the United States. The show will feature fresh work by thirteen of Australia’s finest urban art guerrillas – from the already internationally acclaimed to the burgeoning up-and-comers. This tribe of artists comes from a variety of backgrounds: brilliant new work by notorious 80’s train painters through to the sublime subtlety of a modern day Rembrandt armed with a spray can.
Young & Free is a reflection of Australia’s thriving street culture with a strong grounding in the past and a firm focus on the future. These artists are modern day bushrangers, patrolling the lane from Melbourne to Manhattan. This show features a mix of direct sprays, stencils and paste-ups, representing the rich and varied groundings from which these artists have grown. No matter their age, medium or style, the Young & Free artists all share one thing in common: they want to give the urban landscape a fresh coat of paint.”
It’s going to be interesting to see what all the artists come up with over there in the lead up to the show (oh, and stay tuned for info on this weekends Dabs Myla show!) – but we’ll try to follow it as much as possible.
Get your tickets booked, because if there was ever a time to get over to LA to support our home grown arts, right now seems perfect! .. but, good news for us, is that we hear the show might be coming to Melbourne as well – sweet.
