This Friday we are hit with Meggs’ new show Inner Demons II, at Collingswoods Backwoods Gallery, which is a continuance of his earlier works involving the “inward exploration of duality” – no better way of putting it, really!
The previewed pieces give one goosebumps, and shudders of deeply frightening yet somewhat therapeutic thoughts. This brilliant collection is provocative in its look, feel and for the symbolism conveys.
“This time centring around the notion of ‘demons’ as symbolic reference of our inner most fears and desires; and the constant struggle we face in overcoming or empowering these vices. Although a demon is commonly used to portray a nemesis, Meggs’ pop culture twist on this subject implies that a demon can also be somewhat celebrated, and when vices are overcome or empowered they serve to make us stronger.”
One of the infamous and celebrated Australian Everfresh crew, Meggs has stepped out with this second part of his previous London show in an impressive way. Artistically graduating at stealth speed from the Melbourne Street art scene to yet another level, these works have brought together all the best components of his previous work, both on canvas and on the street. With a layered background of inspiration to pull from; skateboarding to graphic art, Meggs uses all the elements at his disposal to birth and rear his artwork, and for us to bask and contemplate in the viewing … and we thank him!
To see what all the fuss is about get down to the opening night and make your own inner appraisal, and trust that you will come away with something which keeps you delving deeper through the night!
Plus they look pretty damn funky fresh as well – just check out the previous of the show!
