Down in the heart of Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley lives the Nine Lives Gallery, no better home to host this very special group exhibition of intricate ink illustrations. Next Thursday is the opening night of ‘Three Winter Coats and a Dirty Knife’.
Taking its name, and the inspiration for for its works, from Neko Case’s song ‘Dirty Knife’ and the gorgeous poetic interpretation of the ballad by the curator of the show Ellie Anderson, this exhibition is breathtaking in its simplicity. Just looking at the flyer below one cannot help but be moved!
“Through the galleries space, Anderson depicts a tale of a man who after living a solitary life deep in the woods is driven to insanity within his own thoughts. Through their intricate drawings the artists recreate the haunting visions from his mind and present them in a setting which mimics the woodlands which drove him into madness. For anyone who has ever dreamed of going ‘into the wild’”.”
Do yourself a favour and get down in the valley to see this one. Pick up a piece, take it home, pop it above the fireplace (if you have one) and admire it during the last of winter, and through out the seasons to come.
