Humble, young at heart and fancy free, Andrew Sibley prescribes ‘The Petal Family’ amongst the walls that is The Dark Horse Experiment.

Sibley’s history and unique character has resulted in the artist using a mixture of dissimilar mediums to construct his works. This exhibition is not only a visual exploration of Sibley’s take on interpersonal relationships, but also an emotional journey, one that the viewer is invited to perceive in whatever form they so desire.“Petal couples, lovers with many of the usual foibles appear as flat outlined shapes set against subtly hued backgrounds which are finely detailed with floral and leaf patterns achieved by the application of lino-cut print techniques… The couples, often caught in playfully suggestive situations are sometimes accompanied by symbols of the good life – flowers and wine – and bear titles such as ‘ I have a hot Petal’, and ‘My Petal’s warming up’. Obviously, Sibley’s Epic of the Everyman continues its joyfully optimistic journey into 2011 and beyond.

The often difficult relationships between men and women are a central theme to Sibley’s work. Temptation, betrayal, lustful urges and expectation are only a few of the human foibles that are on show and played out in Sibley’s uniquely graphic style.

Sibley makes no judgements, just observes the often overlooked and furtive behaviours of his fellow humans. His satirical take on the behaviours of humanity contains no bitterness or hint of superiority. Instead, he seems to be saying ‘been there, done that’”.
