We find it only fitting that this first ever follow up interview with an artist on Invurt is with one of our absolute favourites – Lush. We interviewed him almost a year ago in the lead up to his first show at Backwoods Gallery, and we had another chance to chat to him in before his second show at the same venue in December.
In the time since, he’s found some cashola and travelled to the States, woo’d the Amerikas, hit it high and pimpin with the Cali set, and lived to tell the tale.
We love Lush, and we getting another chance to see where his adventures have taken him over this past year was mad – but for the prudes or haters out there, well, pffff – chances are you’re at the wrong website …
So, its been almost a year since we talked to you for your last show – and, speaking of that, how did your show at Backwoods go? Did the cops shut it down, or did any ex-girlfriends get into cat fights over your work?
I wish there was all kinds of drama but it just went really well. No one even took a shit in the upper tank of the toilet or anything. Only thing that didn’t happen was some girls I had asked to run in naked and ruin some work.
This time around it might get a bit “hektik” if some piece of shit lads rock up or something. The cops did come through in normal gear trying to listen in on conversations as usual but they didn’t stay long.
How’s the artwork been going lately? What new pieces have you done that you’ve been particularly proud of, and what have been some of your favourite spots in the past year to paint?
I don’t really do any “artwork” I just kinda get a show now and bang out all the work for it in the two weeks beforehand like an idiot ahahaha. But outside in the real world I just plod along doing pieces that suck.
I’m over my shit as soon as I do it and just want to do another idea and spot already.
We heard you did a show over in the US a little while ago – did heaps of chicks turn up?
I did two – one in L.A and one in S.F, and, strangely, a lot of chicks did turn up, God knows why? The first Backwoods show had a lot of lesbian chicks, they were first in line waiting for t-shirts. More power to them, I have a lot in common with them ie: eating pussy and being mad at lots of people. Now they will bash me at this show coming I guess.
Lesbians will fuck you up, they have big fists.
No, but seriously – it was over at Fifty24SF – a gallery we love and who does a lot of really cool shows, how did you get involved with it and what did it entail?
They sent a carrier pigeon across the world, I received the message and sent one back. The pigeon died on the fateful journey back to them.
They sent me an email a bit later asking if I’d do a show.
Did you meet any celebrities in your travels at all? Did you get a chance to stal … I mean, meet, Ashley Blue at all?
I met a lot of porn stars, porn producers and some art celebrities, who for the most part were cocksuckers – pun intended.
Over the past year you’ve done a bunch of stuff with the guys at Zonk Vision – tell us a bit more about the wonderful world of video, and how you decided to follow the film star trail – when are the Zonk vs Lush shows heading to Hollywood?
Zonkvision is like a Scientology cult. You buy books, do z-meter readings and expel those pesky souls stuck inside your body making you do evil ass shit. They will be premiering three new videos at the show.
Okay – this next exhibition at Backwoods – tell us, please, that there are going to be at least a few of Santas sexy helpers featured … oh, and what kind of work will be in this show – yeah!
If you come sit on my knee and ask Santa nicely he might just give you what you ask for. As for work, who knows – I haven’t even done any yet. It feels like a high school homework assignment all over again. Backwoods High School.
Oh shit, if they read this they will kill me.
What are your predictions for this whole “street art and graff scene” thing over the next year, and what are you going to get up to next on your quest?
More shitty car ads, more shitty handbags with graffiti fonts imagined by squares, more toys and less of chance it’ll survive another 2-3 years.
I cant wait for it to die out already, so I can catch more spots, and deal with less cocksuckers on planet zootron trying to tell me not to paint over them because they are real artists who do COLORFUL ARTWORKS for the public to admire.
Fuck off and die!
Check out Lushs Flickr site, and the Backwoods Gallery website more more details on the show.
