Exhibition – Love The Robots – Brisbane

Slightly off centre, yet still completely curious to those of us here who seek out new frontiers in art, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to let you all know about this coming show up in Brisbane (Plus, if you’ve been following us for a while, you’ll know how much we fkn love robots!)

Having had the chance recently to catch the mind blowingly cool and totally accessible Recorders show by artist Rafael Lozana-Hemmer at Sydneys Museum of Contemporary Art, we were looking around for other cool technology orientated shows and stumbled across Love The Robots – and wow, so damn cool – the geek inside us is salivating.

“Love the Robots is live robotic theatre. It’s as much about the makers as it is about the creations and you, as an audience member, are encouraged to become a maker too. Watch live or stream the show online.

Over the course of an evening, Edge Resident Kirsty Boyle, will join with robotics artists, based locally in Brisbane and around the globe, to present a distinctly new performance work. Each of the creators will provide an intimate window into their practice, taking you to the heart of where, how and why they create.

An artist talk will set the scene, introducing each of the artists and their robotic creations. Then prepare to be drawn into a world beyond imagination as each of the artists sets their robots to perform. See ancient techniques and modern technological marvels combine to produce a performance that you are not likely to forget. From body extension robotics and demolition robots to humanoids, swarm robots and robots in love, the performances will span the full spectrum of the field.

Artists will present live and via remote participation. Both shows will be streamed live, with tools for online interaction providing the ability for questions, comments and discussion. The streaming site will go live for each performance.

Love the Robots is designed to give you a rare insight into contemporary robotic arts and contribute to the development of communities of cultural producers in this field. Indulge your curiosity and expand your definition of theatre in this unique event.”

We missed the first part, but there is another showing on the 28th January. Fuck pirates and ninjas – 2012 is all about the chrome – if you’re up in Brissie, then this is a chance to see what the adolescence of robotic art in all of its glory; the future is here.
