Ah Paradise Hills, you wonderful bastion of artistic beauty hidden away in the back streets of Richmond – we love your shows, and this one is, of course, no exception.
“Melbourne has seen it’s status as the arts hub of Australia reach a new echelon in recent years with the flurry of some new talents, galleries and movements, hitting the art scene in a big way. The quality of works and exhibitions are now rivalling the best art centres in the world, drawing many internationals to this city.
MELBOURNE’S BURNING surveys a sample of artists that are achieving just that, making marks in the Australian arts community with an exhibition and event that follows the ever-changing genres across this city. With samples from realism to abstraction, painting, photography, film, and also some exploration of the underground street culture flourishing in Melbourne as a world standout, this exhibition is sure to have something for everybody, and is a good indicator of where art in Melbourne is currently at. The exhibition will also bring to it a carnivalesque atmosphere with the opening seeing some of Melbourne’s more well known underground music acts jamming in tune to the works featured, much in par with the new festive blend of music and visuals that is an increasing and important part of the gallery scene in Melbourne and around the world.”
Some of our favourite artists are up in this show, and a whole bunch of both resident Paradise Hills artists and friends – just look at that cool crew! There will, of course, be a bunch of live bands playing also, as well as some films by Patrick Troy and Mr Speaker. There’s absolutely no doubt that we’ll be heading down to see it – see you there!
