E.L.K. and Adnate have both been busy as hell lately. Adnate has been painting up a series of remarkablt beautiful portrait pieces across Melbourne, as well as preparing for a solo show later this year, whilst E.L.K. has been jetting around for Project 5 – amongst other projects going on.
That we saw some news, that, in amongst it all, they are having a show together here in Melbourne? Well. Shit. At a pretty interestingly cool gallery too.
If you haven’t heard of Molecule, its a pretty curious space – nestled above Melbournes iconic Bourke Street, Molecule was founded by architects Anjade Spa, Richard Fleming and Jarrod Haberfield. Their methodology for the gallery is simply to “reflect the idea that inspired minds work best together.”
Intriguing, yeah? It gets better. “From our Melbourne HQ we work across the disciplines of architecture, interiors and art direction. For Molecule, every project of any scale is a relished chance to invert a paradigm or bring delight where there might be none. The potential for beauty in human experience is forever our focus.
The Gallery is home to bi-monthly installations from leading local artists. The charter is simple: artists must be represented by a commercial gallery and the work is to be site-specific. Beyond these constraints it is carte blanche: curatorial heaven!”
It seems a logic choice for a show, really, as there’s no doubt that these two artists work does, distinctively, convey that “human experience” that Molecule seems to delight in.
I mean, Adnate and E.L.K. on the one billing? With co-curation from the talented Alex McCulloch of Metro Gallery, there is no doubt that exhibition title is entirely apt – because these two really are killing it right now.
