Snapshots – The Andy Mac Collection

Snapshots – The Andy Mac Collection

There has been a lot of talk as to this auction, much of it divided. Whatever opinion you find yourself leaning towards on the sale of the Andy Mac Collection, one thing is for sure – its a damn fine display of art.

We actually decided a while ago that we wouldn’t be covering any more auction events, but we couldn’t pass up publishing these photos of the collection that Dean Sunshine sent through to us after tonights preview – and what a display of Melbourne street art history it is!

Now, we don’t generally have any opinion on these things, but we will say one thing – the Andy Mac collection represents an extremely important piece of Australian art history, and we just cant help but feel a little disheartened that it will now be broken up. How remarkable this collection would have been, if we had of had the opportunity to be able to see these works whenever we wished, in a public gallery? Or to have the chance to show our children and say “this is where it all began …” – and  that’s all we have to say on that.

So, take a look, and check out this small glimpse of what’s up for grabs. If you’re really interested in the details or going down to check it out for yourself before this beautiful body of work gets auctioned off, head over to the website – there’s even a catalogue to peruse … it’s all happening this weekend.
