For a couple of months now, artist Joseph Flynn and the rest of the Gallery One Three team has been curating a diverse range of shows here in Melbourne.
Though the works of these shows have a fairly contemporary bent, it is in the creative ideas and boundary pushing of the artists displaying here that bring it most to our attention – and tonight’s opening is no exception.
“Subtle:
1. thin, tenuous, or rarefied, as a fluid or an odor.
2. fine or delicate in meaning or intent; difficult to perceive or understand.
3. delicate or faint and mysterious.
4. requiring mental acuteness, penetration, or discernment.
5. characterized by mental acuteness or penetration.
Form:
1. external appearance of a clearly defined area, as distinguished from color or material; configuration.
2. the shape of a thing or person.
3. a body, especially that of a human being.
4. a dummy having the same measurements as a human body, used for fitting or displaying clothing.
5. something that gives or determines shape; a hold.
The sensations of line, humble and quiet can be regarded as qualities only associated to those of a religious appeal.
The artists in this exhibition generate forms, both fluid and stagnant. Focusing on patterns and forms that are often overlooked by reality, although of which the structure of society itself could not sustain without.
It is the simple things that make one happy.
This exhibition is absorbed with the sustainability of human temperament, not too hot, not too cold; simply, beautifully – subtle.”
Cool, huh? We love the concept here, and we’re looking forward to checking it out down at One Three Gallery.
