Early last year, when he was getting ready for his solo show “Oranges & Lemons”, we had a great chance to chat to BENNETT about his then show, and the shape of his art. Over a year and a half later, we’re looking at the way in which time has shaped his work – and where we were already in love with his work, checking out all of the work and info on his upcoming solo show “Dont Shoot The messenger”, well, we’ve falled in love a little more with his work.
“‘DONT SHOOT THE MESSENGER’ is the latest collection of works from Sydney based painter BENNETT. These new abstractions explore the importance of balance and content and composition. Thematically the series hinges on the appropriation of found materials in order to give new meanings and contexts to everyday objects and scenarios.
BENNETT is a painter working with found materials and tactile surfaces to discover a sense of his tory beyond the context of their final resolve. This nostalgic recontextualization of mass media targets an aesthetic desire to resolve the image, yet his experimentation with abstraction and colour play is a constant driving force behind the work.”
Check out a whole bunch of studio pics and previews in the gallery below that Bennett sent through to us, such a great preview – wish we could get up there to see it ourselves!
