Ahhh Lush. A man that needs no introduction (unless you live under a rock) is having a show at Backwoods Gallery this Friday. Lush’s work is an ongoing commentary of the graffiti and street art scene, while offensive (to some) and bloody funny, is always very apt and accurate. Looking forward to seeing the new work, and also if there will be a surprise or performance that I have seen at a couple of his shows.
From the press release “Originating in Melbourne’s western suburbs, the anonymous artist Lush has embarked on a one-man campaign, wielding the duel swords of smut and humor, to deliver a brutally honest commentary of the worlds graffiti and street art scene.
A campaign that has, in an added act of irony, made him one of Australia’s most renowned graffiti artists, the paradoxical product of his own criticisms.
Lush makes expert use of social media to deliver its brutal honesty, his viral videos, innovative ideas and controversial projects have been the cornerstone of his success to date, betraying the mastermind hiding beneath the surface of an otherwise naive artistic style.
Backwoods is proud to present “The Evolution of A Graffiti Shit Cunt”, a series of original illustrated caricatures of graffiti and street art culture stereotypes, originally created for episodic online release, displayed for the first time together in a gallery.”
I had planned on inserting the “Lush bashes Sofles” video that’s been going around, but it has been removed from YouTube haha.
