The next video we have for you today is from none other that Ian Strange, aka Kid Zoom, who has just released a video about his most recent show in Christchurch, New Zealand, at the Canterbury Museum.
Following on from the themes of his show at the National Gallery of Victoria, Suburban, Final Act focused on the earthquake stricken city, bringing new aspects to urban exploration – and its a beautiful video documenting the devastating after effects of the disaster.
“FINAL ACT is a new a film, photography and installation based project by visual artist, Ian Strange.
In November 2013, Strange in collaboration with acclaimed cinematographer Alun Bollinger (The Lord of the Rings, Heavenly Creatures, The Frighteners), created three new film and photographic based artworks incorporating four suburban homes in Christchurch, New Zealand. These houses were located in Christchurch’s residential ‘Red Zone’, an area containing over 16,000 houses slated for demolition after the devastating earthquake in February 2011.
FINAL ACT is in part an archival documentation of these Christchurch homes and a continuation of the artist’s ongoing exploration into the home and its role, particularly in Western culture, as a social icon.
FINAL ACT, a solo exhibition by Ian Strange, premiered at the Canterbury Museum as part of Rise Festival on Friday December 20, 2013.”
