A party may be coming to a close, but for ALEXANDRA LEKIAS this post party period is a part of her creative process. These significant aftermath moments have often moulded clever ideas for her figures.
Selfie Sourcing Pudding Party is an outrageous collection of imaginative and witty works, inspired by the shameless rituals observed at the end of a big night out. ‘Selfies’ have become the documented evidence ofthe unfolding and unravelling journeys of the night.
For months on end Alexandra works in her studio surrounded by her world of possessions, collected objects, and accessories which have provided ideas and inspiration for her rainbow rich works. Her unmatched level of detail and painstakingly hand rendered drawings of artefacts, fantasy and popular culture drip and adorn her female subjects. These candy coloured adornments contain tiny complex vignettes, aimed at having a humorous and engaging conversation with the viewer. The content of these accessories reflect her crazy brand of playfulness, creating multiple layered complex scenarios.
“My work is a collection of mass cultural quotations, samples and references that influence our personal identity. These stories are designed to bring back a sense of memory about one’s own experiences. I want my work to be honest and insightful, I am talking to the viewer as I would a mate at the pub”.
