Dissect Journal

Dissect Journal

From the Dissect Journal website: “Through ‘Dissect Journal,’ we aim to focus on the local significance and particularity of contemporary art and artists. We refuse to rely solely on a pre-determined internationalism, and the concept of a radically pluralistic, global museum without walls. Just as Italian Renaissance artists became anatomists by necessity, we aim to dissect and analyse the work of contemporary artists from various vantage points, sculpting and refining multiple histories of contemporary art.

We turn to print, because we believe that no text or critical approach should stand alone as an artefact, isolated in its own singularity. The published medium allows us to carefully and inventively juxtapose images and text, so that they can spark further discussion and debate over the nature of contemporary art and criticism.

We also aim to use ‘Dissect’ as a vessel through which we can explore and extend the possibilities of writing, editing and publishing as artistic practices in their own right.”
