This is a show I’ve been waiting to see for a damn long time. Since moving to Melbourne from Perth a couple of years ago, Ryan Boserio has constantly worked on progressing his fantastical, surrealistic scifi infused imagery. Over this time his pieces that have popped up in both solo shows in Perth as well as group shows here in Melbourne (with the odd wall popping up here and there), all of which have hinted at a body of work that looks to have been realised with Observance – and damn, I’m fkn excited to see it all. Read on for more…
“A solo exhibition by Melbourne-based artist Ryan Boserio, Observance is an examination of human relationships in a world where the blurring lines between fantasy and reality are entirely inescapable. Thought-provoking and inventive, portraits on canvas and 3D-printed masks question the role that illusion plays in our everyday lives as they are increasingly augmented by technology.
The collection ponders our obsession with the outcomes of these systems, rather than the inner workings of the systems themselves. Contemporary illustration toys with science fiction aesthetics, transforming familiar-feeling characters into ‘the other’ through metaphoric elements of the bizarre. Observance not only welcomes these delusions, it pats them on the back and hands them a beer.”
Ryan is one of our favourite artists, moving his work fully forward in pure 21st century style – so head down and check it out this Friday night!
