Okay, so this looks cool – I remember a great exhibition that was done with vinyl back at Per Square Metre, and that one was amazing. This show will be held over two galleries, which just goes to show how many pieces that are in it, so if you’re in Sydney and want to see a great collection of work on this much loved musical medium check it out.
“Medium: Vinyl is Hardware Gallery’s annual celebration of art, music and the vinyl record. Artists have been invited to paint, etch, print, sculpt onto a vinyl record, transforming a much loved and familiar disc of music into something visually wonderful.
2011 is the biggest year so far, with 180 artworks in the exhibition and over 50 more showing across the road at Plump Gallery. Artists from every state in Australia and right across the globe have heard the call and embraced the vinyl. The medium is a modern icon, an antique,a collectable, an object to be recycled and a piece of art itself creating many considerations for the artists to respond to, visually and symbolically. As usual, the challenge of working outside the comfort zone has pushed artists to deliver their best.”
