Exhibition – Subject To Approval – NFA Gallery – Melbourne

The good folk from the people who brought us Art Of The Mill, NFA Gallery, return with another pop up show, this time in the heart of the city at Collins Place.

With a really stellar lineup, this show looks at a bit of the darker side of politics and issues, with reactions from some of Australia finest artists to some of the more serious topics that have been surrounding us.

“A group exhibition exploring some of our society’s most hard-hitting issues, particularly those avoided by mainstream media and corporate advertising.

Featuring works by Will Coles, ELK, GoonHugs, Lucy Lucy, Makatron, Sugar, Otto, Julia Both (formerly Palazzo), George Rose and Van T Rudd.”

This show is already generating a bit of rumour and controversy, with words in the whisper-pipe that someone higher up in the building had complained that one of the pieces involved was too offensive to be displayed near the entrance – not sure what the response has been here from everyone involved or the full story, but in our eyes this kind of censorship of any artwork is a big no-no and we’ll be finding out more.

Anyways, makes us even more interested to see the show tonight!  … oh yeah, and this is an image of the piece we were talking about …

.. I mean, seriously? This was censored and asked to be moved from its public viewing position near the entrance? Its such a rad piece and feels to me it does what it is intended to do, make people stop, look and think! I dont see how this is any more disturbing than what we see on the news every day, but then, I dont know the whole story  …. yet. So head on down and check it out for yourselves tonight!!
