One of the artists that we have been waiting for to come and visit us down here for a long time now, is Nychos, and, thankfully, he has well and truly arrived and already painted up a massive piece that we absolutely love. This weekend sees him opening his show, Monochrome Organism at Juddy Roller, and it looks to be a damn good one. Nychos specialises in some grand cut away anatomy pieces on a large large scale, and its good to see a show of a bunch of his work that forms the basis for some of his bigger pieces.
“In his new exhibition, Monochrome Organism, Nychos goes back to his roots, giving Australian an insight into his creative process: every big wall starts with a sketch, often, these sketches developed further and become ink on paper, finished artworks. The drawings in Monochrome Organism represent the ideas, concepts and experiments by Nychos that help guide him to create even more anatomically accurate and detailed pieces.
These artworks show the importance of his attention to anatomical detail in his work: the correct position of the bones, organs and skin are key to creating his realistic cross-sections, dissections or translucencies, and to help him achieve new levels of detail and artistic expression. Nychos puts countless hours into his anatomical studies and this is reflected in the works that he is exhibiting at Juddy Roller.
Recently, together with animal skulls, Nychos has also been exploring human anatomy through surgical studies found in the libraries in his home town of Vienna, so it is no coincidence that he has chosen the cross-section of a foetus as the main image for the exhibition.
“I am very excited to be showing my works in Australia for the first time, since I know there are many people here that really appreciate my work, and am looking forward to the opening of Monochrome Organism at Juddy Roller Gallery” – Nychos
The exhibition opens at 6pm 10th of March.
