We love all the various different artist initiatives that come out of looking for sustainable ways of both living and creating, and this one is no exception. A bunch of our favourite artists have put together a new little project to recycle empty printer cartridge ink, giving people the chance to create rad images from something that helps out the environment at the same time.

In order to launch it all, they are doing a great group show this Friday at BSIDE Gallery – and it looks really grand.

“Join us for a lousy night of art and fun. We’ve gathered some of our favourite, local artist to test-drive our 100% recycled artist ink in this knockout group exhibition. Grab a beer, start some banter and come see the versatility and potential of your new favourite ink brand.

Lousy Ink is made from 100% recycled material, we’ve created an affordable, friendly and well-rounded product for everyday use. Priding ourselves on celebrating mistakes as the process of creation, our product speaks to that ideology whole-heartedly. Sourced from a local plastics recycling company, we upcycle old inkjet printer ink and give it a second chance to be a part of something great.

An artist-run brand for full-time artists and artists-to-be.

I’ve personally used this ink, and it has a beautiful feel to it. The closest I can describe it is as gorund sumi-e ink, but with less of a grit texture and a little less of that watery flow – but, tis perfect for either brushing, or scratching into a good bit of paper.

The show looks like it’ll be really cool too – we dont get too many shows that are focused primarily on drawings, and ink drawings at that, and its a huge lineup of some of the best in Melbourne! Head down to BSIDE this Friday night to check it all out!
