This is a show I’ve personally been waiting for for a very, very long time. After having showed in so many group exhibitions, painting so many rad pieces up on the walls of Melbourne, Silk Roy is having his very first solo exhibition this coming Friday – and I cant fucking wait!
Celebrating over a decade of creativity, Melbourne artist Silk Roy brings his very first solo show, Surface Tension, to BSIDE Gallery in Fitzroy.
Inspired by Melbourne’s historical heritage, Silk Roy equally embraces our modern, creative metropolis by imbuing temporary, surficial compositions with his foundational graffiti ethos. Having in recent years successfully transitioned his spraypainted aesthetic into the emotic realm of abstract expressionism, Silk Roy’s obsession with style has, over time, evolved his work to laconically embrace the global Graffuturism movement, whilst still retaining its own individualistic flourish.
With his harmonious interfusions of dynamic and colourful chaos, Silk Roy’s confidence as an artist, after painting hundreds of walls and showing in multiple group shows, has grown exponentially as he has pursued his artistic goals with harmonious determination. With multifaceted layers purporting visual representations of “in the moment” emotions, the work found in Surface Tension has coalesced into a solo show of both beauty and soul – the movement of paint across walls and colour against canvas subtly rendered in a sublime, controlled chaos between diffractional blends of shadow and light.
Join Silk Roy at the opening of Surface Tension at BSIDE Gallery, 121 Brunswick street. The show opens Friday 23rd June from 6pm to 9pm, and runs until 2nd July 2017.”
Also, Michael Danischewski has (once again) done an amazing video preview and overview of Silk and his work, so check this out as well –
