Our good mate E.L.K. (Luke Cornish) has been doing a hell of a lot of work in the last few years to advocate the plight of Syria’s children throughout the devastating civil war that’s been going on for way too long. Now,gathering together fiends and some of Australia’s finest street artists and others of that persuasion, he is putting on a huge fundraiser event that, quite frankly, you should support as much as possible.
Well let the release do the talking …
“It’s now been over seven years since what began as a peaceful uprising of the Syrian people, quickly escalated into a catastrophic civil war.
This war has cost the people of Syria more than most of us could ever imagine, as the suffering is too great to comprehend. Those involved, on both sides of the conflict, have reduced vast areas of Syria to rubble and, with that, hundreds of thousands of innocent Syrians have lost their lives.
The ongoing turmoil that is forced upon the people of Syria is not only revolting; it is immoral, with devastating ramifications. After seven years of this brutal conflict, children are far too familiar with horror and sadness. Most have grown up surrounded by death, destruction and poverty and the hope of leading a peaceful existence is a far-flung, beautiful dream. Across the war-torn nation, many of these children have lost their families; leaving them without love, care and shelter. These are the children that are most vulnerable, that face an unsure future, in a cycle of ongoing suffering: these are the children that need our help.
It is for this reason that a small group of people have decided to embark on For Syria’s Children, a fundraising project aiming to assist those young Syrians that have been affected so terribly by this relentless conflict.
Through the auction of works by those artists contributing, along with individual donations received, all funds raised will be allocated directly to a selection of local Syrian organisations, including orphanages, hospitals and on-the-ground health care services, spread across a number of Syria’s most heavily devastated cities.
Join us at Besser Space in Collingwood on Thursday the 28th September for the first ‘For Syria’s Children’ Fundraising art exhibition.”
