‘Colour Blind’ is a collection of recent works by Varun Sinh coming to BSIDE Gallery this November.

The exhibition contains over 20 large, primarily acrylic on canvas pieces, all created in 2019 during the artist’s sabbatical.

“The artist’s own colour-blindness led him to question the way most of us perceive colour. This exhibition explores the concept of colour as an evolutionary construct; something that is subjectively interpreted by the brain. We naturally assume that what we see is somehow ‘correct’ and associate meaning behind it. In reality, there are other people, animals, maybe even plants that perceive light and colour very differently. This series of paintings seeks to explore the possibilities of what is actually out there. What if we could see things clearly, free from the limitations of our human capacity?”

Varun is based in Brisbane. Originally from India, he moved to Australia as a child and learnt of his colour-blindness when he was 14. This is his second solo exhibition.
