Tektoniks by Benjamin Knock coming to Backwoods Gallery in Collingwood for one weekend only.
Knock gets inspired by what he see’s in his dreams or in other altered states. He loves to travel and has painted all over the world, from Japan to Berlin to London to Melbourne. Wherever he lays his head you are most likely to see his art popping up showing off his unmistakable style and technique.
“Humans can’t hear earthquakes.
The seismic waves produced when tectonic plates collide, causing an earthquake, have frequencies below human’s audible range. It is estimated that there are over half a million earthquakes every year with about 20% that can be felt.
I felt my first seismic wave a few years ago whilst living in the mountains of Kyushu, Japan. As an adult it was strange to experience an entirely new sensation. The feeling of an earthquake tremor is hard to describe in words, it is a unique experience that provides no warning and instantly jolts you out of reality.
The works in this exhibition are a visual and auditory exploration of these inaudible and indescribable tectonic forces. Forces that shape the landscape of planets that we cannot describe and we can not hear.
I’ve always wondered what would earthquakes sound like if we could hear them…”
– Benjamin Knock
