We are absolutely unashamed to be massive fans of DrewFunk, and whenever he has a show, we’re guaranteed to be there. His last show, Black Linings was phenomenally full of sketched out ink drawings and it had No Vacancy buzzing.

This next show from DrewFunk, Parity, see’s him moving into a few new directions away from the ink mediums of Black Linings, and its great to see – thematically, also, it’s different – and it looks to be an wonderfully delved down, exploratory show.

“Duly named, “Parity” seeks equality through colours, themes, mediums and art forms.

Balance, roots and growth are repeatedly examined throughout these artworks.  Complementary black and white tones create the bases of the paintings.  Mystical creatures and oriental imagery and symbolism comments on a cross of cultures; the transition and adaptation DrewFunk experienced when he moved from Malaysia to Australia.  Cultural heritage is coincided with memories of childhood, with strong nostalgic undertones evoked through a lonely tree house and images of past pets.

In a step away from his familiar ink work, DrewFunk concentrates on mastering the medium of paint through brushwork.  However, his graffiti roots are still obvious through the integration of aerosol to create flare and movement on the canvas.   The pursuit of balance between the street and the gallery is evident.

Consolidating creative energy from peers and influences from master painters, “Parity” proposes a link between the creative elements of fine art, music and dance.”

We really can’t wait, and whether you’re an old fan of Drewfunk, or someone who should get to one of his shows – this one – for the first time, this is going to be one of those shows that everyone loves.
