Rounding up some of the last of the years shows, we saw this one the other day that opens up in Sydney next week. The line up looks pretty solid, with a wide range of styles represented – but we’ll let the bios do the talking …
“Mark Drew is an Australian graphic artist currently working from Tokyo. Initially based in Sydney, Drew was behind the scenes of many local exhibitions as co-owner of China Heights Gallery. www.chinaheights.com / www.makingends.com
Anton Benois is an artist currently working in Sydney, on a sabbatical from his art practice in Berlin. He was born in Moscow and spent his formative years in New York City. His work is a pop-cultural revolution of post-ironic visual stimuli, stemming from his many influences ranging from political ideologies to the internal workings of the mind. He has exhibited widely in Australia and Europe, with a solo show in Paris in 2010, and is held in private collections both locally and internationally. www.antonbenois.com
In an effort to revive painting from its inevitable demise, Sydney based artist Will Cooke explores art history through the notion of contradiction. His focal point is mainly abstraction, but he will often refer to his graffiti writing background as a source of disruption. Will has just completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours at Sydney College of the Arts.
Esjay‘s art is a reminder that life isn’t meant to be so serious – humour in images, bringing people closer together. The perfect way to distract an adult momentarily while you steal their wallet. www.esjayart.com”
